La Caraffara

Because the atmosphere is very friendly, we are immersed in a hazelnut forest at 1,000 m on Etna, and therefore nature and animal lovers are welcome. Here silence and nature reign (our volcano is close to us but it is not dangerous!)

I have the utmost respect for the volunteers who have come to visit us; I often take them on hikes on Etna and to our fantastic sea, because I love to show what I love about my homeland. We also work firsthand in all agritourism activities and in the countryside. We have a caravan where the volunteers will sleep, but meals will be prepared with us in our home.

The work instructions were clear and the jobs that I had to do were pretty easy. However, throughout my stay, I was not fed enough food. Dinner was the only full meal I received (the other meals were very light), however, sometimes dinner was not even provided. I had to continuously buy groceries even on the days that we agreed I’d be provided with meals. The housing situation was not very ideal as when I arrived, the camper van that I was sleeping in was dirty with mold and ants on the walls. I also felt the host was not very welcoming and I felt that I was not wanted in their home.

She stayed with us for 10 days and barely worked one hour a day, and the work was done poorly. Despite everything we offered meals. We entrusted our farm to her in our absence, and upon returning I found my pots thrown outside to water the animals and many things broken, a gift (hair oil) completely used up, a filthy house, and finally our beloved dog, whom we loved, went out with them into the street and was torn apart by other dogs, and when I returned I found her.

The family was friendly, Cristina speaks French, otherwise you can learn Italian. On the other hand, I think I arrived in a very busy period for them and he did not have time for me. The objective of this Woofing was to discover the local culture, to have an exchange and to learn Italian. But in 3 days I felt that he didn't have time for me and didn't care about me, I was there to work. So I shortened my stay. Nevertheless, it all depends on what you are looking for, the family is friendly, and I had to arrive at the wrong time.

I needed help during a hazelnut harvest, I left to do my job as a veterinarian at 6 in the morning and returned in the evening. My husband took care of my children and the hazelnut harvest, do you think we had time to turn you around? You need flexibility dear girl, you could have taken a bus to go wherever you want, go hiking (near us there are hundreds of mountain trails). You told me that you didn't like the job and that's why you left, you weren't even honest and you got me into trouble because I organized myself knowing that you were there and I didn't call other volunteers leaving us alone.. if you make a commitment you have to respect it!
