Sitio Ypê

Sitio Ypê is located near Inhotim, the world's largest open-air art museum. We are in a welcoming environment, with half of its area set aside as preserved forest at the foot of Serra dos Três Irmãos.

We offer good infrastructure including a basic WiFi connection, comfortable rooms with blankets and a washing machine. If you prefer, we have space for camping.

The site is a strictly family-run environment, led by owner Sônia and occasionally by friends and family. Here Worldpackers will be part of the big Sitio Ypê family.

Those were wonderful days at Sitio o sítio. The place is undergoing a restructuring, and it was good to be able to contribute to local growth. Sônia is a wonderful host; she made me feel very at ease, and she was full of stories to tell.

Sonia is very attentive and kind. From the first moment she was receptive. Casa la granja is a growing project, and you can see the effort that she is putting into improving it every day. I felt warmly welcomed and I appreciate the opportunity to have been part of this stage of the project. I am sure it will continue to evolve and offer an even better experience.

My experience on the farm was very enriching. I learned about sustainability, how to work the land, how to make the most of the resources provided by nature and the care of chickens. In addition, I had a lovely relationship with Sonia and the friends I met there; they are all very lovely people. I enjoyed my time in Brumadinho a lot; everything is very peaceful in the countryside. Very grateful for the time and shared space.

My experience in this volunteering program was varied. The natural environment is very beautiful and I value having had a single room. During the stay, the tasks were more focused on cleaning the house, and the land-related activities that had been discussed did not take place. In the final part I faced a health issue that led me to interrupt the experience. I understand the host's personal and work commitments; still, for me it would have been important to have a little more support. I take away a greater development of my environmental awareness and I am grateful for the opportunity.

Hi Marcia. Since the weather was rainy, I felt that you couldn't do outdoor activities in the rain. In the week after you arrived, I already had to wake up at dawn to take you to the hospital. Did you know that I couldn't stay at the hospital with you? And during the other week you were practically inside your room recovering. How could I take you to activities on land? I know, unfortunately these things happen. Just as it wasn't good for you, it wasn't good for me either.

My experience at the site was very good; I liked it a lot. The work was calm and flexible. The days off Sônia recommended should be on the day when Inhotim has free entry, so that the volunteer can visit. Sônia is an amazing, welcoming, good-humored woman and she taught me how to make pizza dough. Haha I highly recommend spending a season at the site, getting to know Sônia and her stories, getting to know Inhotim and the city of Brumadinho, walking through the center, going to Casa de Memória.
