SUMI Stage
SUMI Stage is a peaceful and inspiring place where my personal life and my creative project, SUMI with Soul, come together.
You'll stay in my family's traditional home, located in the heart of La Secuita, a charming village of around 1,200 inhabitants in Catalonia. It's the perfect place to enjoy a slower pace of life while experiencing authentic local culture.
Despite its peaceful atmosphere, everything is close by. Tarragona, a beautiful Mediterranean city famous for its Roman heritage and vibrant cultural life, is easily accessible by bus. The high-speed train (AVE) station is just 5 minutes away and connects you to Barcelona in only 30 minutes. The beach is also just a 15-minute drive away.
Hi! I'm Susana, the founder of SUMI with Soul, an artisan project that transforms vintage Japanese textiles into contemporary pieces while exploring textile art and sustainability.
This is a very special moment for my project because I am creating my first textile art exhibition. Volunteers will become part of this creative process and will mainly help with sewing, both by hand and using a sewing machine. Depending on the stage of the project, they may also help prepare textile pieces, organize fabrics and materials, and assist with other creative tasks related to the exhibition.
You don't need to be a professional seamstress, but you should enjoy sewing, be patient, pay attention to detail and be willing to learn. If you already have sewing experience, that's a great advantage.
Life here is based on collaboration. Besides the creative work, we will share everyday tasks such as cooking together and keeping the common areas of the house clean and tidy. We all contribute to creating a comfortable and welcoming home.
I want volunteers to feel like part of the project, not just extra hands. I love sharing what I know about textile craftsmanship, Japanese fabrics and the creative process, and I also enjoy learning from the people who join me. Mutual respect, kindness and open communication are essential in our home.
