Tierra de Sueños

We are adding this text now to explain that on December 31, 2025 and January 1, 2026 we suffered a major catastrophe and a large part of our productive facilities burned down: the greenhouse, the aquaponics, hydroponics and aeroponics systems, as well as the 2 syntrópic forests and the 4 sheds where we stored all our tools. After more than half a year we have improved everything to the point that it is an unrecognizable place, and it was all achieved through a lot, a lot, a lot of effort and dozens of hands that not only helped, but learned things that truly astonish. If you really want to learn and value highly the knowledge you can take away from the projects by helping us rebuild everything again and thereby truly learn the heart of these projects then you will be our favorite guest. And I promise you that everything you learn will never be taken away from you!

And why choose my place?
It is a place where you will see that if you really dream of something you can carry it out only if you are not willing to give up; we can teach you many things in a totally natural space where we focus on building, designing, sowing and dreaming of a possible future.

What is Tierra de Sueños?
It is a place built from the income of a single person and we do not have financial support from anyone else. Since I was a child I dreamed of having a place to build, experiment, cultivate, learn and teach, and today one could say that we are on the way to having fulfilled at least part of the dream. Everything accomplished so far is part of our effort and of some people who voluntarily lent us a hand in exchange for learning alongside us.
What do we do?
We are in pursuit of self-sustainability, both in food production and in construction, and for that we have several projects that I will enumerate and I invite you to investigate each of them to know what they are about.
Bioconstruction (building with natural materials within our reach), Sintropia (creation of edible forests), Aquaponics (farming with fish), Aeroponics (cultivation in the air), Hydroponics (cultivation on floating beds and nutrient recirculation), Organic garden (everything we produce is natural). We also have farm animals (chickens, turkeys), fish, cats and a dog. We also build with cement, only we do it in spaces where we give it a special shape, imitation of wood, stone and some sculptures.
Where are we located?
Our farm is located in the capital of our country (Montevideo), we are 13 kilometers from the most central point of our capital, being able to travel there using bus lines that pass 400 meters from our farm. You have well-equipped supermarkets 25 minutes on foot away.
We do not have wifi and we all use data from our cell phones; no one in the area has wifi since no telephone cables pass, likewise you will have good signal using any of the 3 mobile phone companies in Uruguay and at affordable costs.
What area do we have? 3 hectares, where we have 3 forests in formation, several gardens, 3 greenhouses, 1 sombráculo, 3 houses, 3 sheds and a space for meetings.
for permanence.
I invite you to watch the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eqsa94EYcCI&t=4s

What housing amenities are available for volunteers?
One of our houses, which we call “Casa Escuela,” is entirely dedicated to volunteers. It has 4 bedrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 indoor bathroom and 1 outdoor bathroom, and also a covered and enclosed space with 2 more tables where you can eat, study, and work. We also have a small gym with some equipment so you can exercise in your free time.
What will your tasks be?
Help us with all the projects we develop here, for 5 hours, 5 days a week, counting 2 days off, and where you will learn many things that we will see which you have more aptitude for.
It is very important the following: in addition you must outside of hours maintain the Casa Escuela that you yourself, along with the rest of the volunteers, will use and must maintain the order and cleanliness, both of the bathroom and the kitchen that you will use to prepare your own meals.
It is very important that after each meal you wash your dishes and clean the kitchen since being in a rural area many insects may be interested in the leftovers you yourself made. We will continuously draw attention to the previous point as it is extremely necessary that you take care of what you yourself used, both the bathroom and the kitchen.
The leftovers are properly sorted since we compost and you must give them the destination we will tell you after each meal.
You will also be able to rotate with the other volunteers to keep order in the house that only you will use.
What do we offer you?
The opportunity to learn a countless array of knowledge that day by day we will teach you and that will try to be different so that during the time you stay you can take away the best experience.
You will be able to prepare your breakfast and lunch in the kitchen of Casa Escuela with food that you can collect from our gardens (everything is organic and healthy) and once a week we will provide what is within our budget in terms of groceries (cocoa, sugar, oil, flour, tomato sauce, legumes, some spices). Surely there will be many other things that we invite you to acquire yourself since, as this is a project that does not yet have an economic outlet, we do not have resources to fully cover meals.
We do not yet have fruit in our forests which have 1 year of planting, so you will also have to acquire the fruit.
You will have a washing machine available that you can use almost all day, except between 4pm and 10pm when electricity costs are higher.
What will you have to bring?
Used clothes for the tasks, good footwear (boots), gloves to protect your hands, hat for the sun, warm clothes in winter.
A sleeping bag for your bed (we have some warm clothes for the bed but many times it is not enough for all volunteers).
Personal hygiene products (toilet paper, soap, shampoo, laundry soap).

If we have free spaces for you to come, we will arrange an exchange via WhatsApp where we will provide more information about the activities described here, as well as the stay rules.
Extras
Once a week we can offer theoretical workshops about what we do.
If you want a Bartender course we can offer it with a discount for volunteers.
The eggs from our chickens are sold and volunteers have a significant discount on them, making them cheaper than in any business.

Another note I should mention is that the place does not have Internet since there are no data cables in our area, so you will have to purchase a SIM card from any of the three phone companies in Uruguay (Ancel, Movistar, Claro).

The chaos of the city has ended; the project is a peaceful place, full of nature, with friendly people to share with and discover permaculture; it was incredible to be able to eat all kinds of fresh and completely organic vegetables, as well as learn to have them in my own home in the future.

El proyeto is a great place to meet people, here you can learn a variety of things, you can discover new tastes, try foods you never thought you would try, discover a different way of how you want to live and what you want to achieve. Allan is the best, every day he teaches something new, even the basics you can think of, he always has more ideas to keep building el proyeto and that each day would get a little better. Now in the future I would like to have my own organic garden, and it's something I hadn't thought about before that I could do. Super recommended to come, meet, and learn!

Thank you, and it was clarified why you didn't come to say goodbye; you thought I was too busy talking, and while that's true, I would have said goodbye to you as I always do with everyone. Best regards and good luck on your trip.

The project — the project — is really the project. My first volunteer experience could not have been in a better place. Allan is not just a host; he makes us feel that everything is at home. He welcomes us with open arms. In the first conversation with him you can already feel the love and how much he cares and has done for the project. I was able to practice a lot of Spanish, experience the Uruguayan culture, and learn about new forms of cultivation (aquaponics, aeroponics), animal care, and replanting. I only have gratitude for Allan and for the project — the project. Heartfelt thanks and I hope to return.
