Yellow Sun Hostel

Kampot is steeped in colonial history, which makes it both beautiful and interesting. Local people are a mixture of Cambodian and ex pats, both of which you can find frequenting the many bars and coffee shops in the local town. At the hostel we employ both western and local staff; currently 9 Khmer staff who hold positions in all aspects of the business, from cooking and housekeeping, to maintenance and bar tending. We are only too happy to help with improving your local language skills.

We are looking for volunteers who can help out with the general running of a backpackers hostel. Reception Helping out restaurant , liaising with guests and any Ad Hoc duties that occur. We are looking for friendly, sociable people with a good level of English. No previous experience is necessary. You will either be working morning shifts (08:00 - 14:00): serving breakfast orders, checking people in, renting kayaks and just being a smiley face to make guests feel welcome! We always had a fews local staff to help. Or evening shifts (17:00-23:00): 6day a week. the reception turns in to a busy bar by night! You will help with food orders and serve drinks, chatting to all the interesting people that pass through our doors.

I had such an amazing time volunteering here! The staff and the other volunteers were great and you get to meet heaps of other travellers. The work is fun and enjoyable and the location is perfect if you like to chill, swim and lay in the sun all day 😊 I definitely recommend applying!

This is the best place to start your volunteering journey! I had the best time. It really is like a family here. The work hours are respected and lenient if needs be. I had to cut my time short due to being in the hospital but even though I couldn’t work they still sent me food to the hospital and welcomed me back when I returned! Honestly couldn’t recommend this place more.

The training phase was really chaotic but after a few days we learned everything and felt really comfortable in our new job. We had an amazing group of volunteers and constant help and answering every question from Tak and Pros(an amazing staff). A lovely river to swim in, a stunning view, lots of animals and a cozy common area was a super environment. Despite some organisational disadvantages and “boss energy” from our host we had an amazing time, but I realise that mostly because of the friends we’ve made here.
(36hours not 32 as it’s written on the worldpackers).

Volunteering at Yellow Sun was an amazing experience. The hostel’s bar and the common area were such nice places to spend time in. The work was easy and I enjoyed it. The only disadvantage was that there wasn’t really any training. The host didn’t explain to us for example how the check in system worked or how to rent motorbikes ect. Also there is 36 hours of work in total (6 days a week 6 hours a day), not 32. This is not a minus, working there was really fun but the information on worldpackers is different. The volunteers are like a family and the atmosphere is super! I would recommend!

We'll update that information as soon as possible. We're glad to hear that you felt like part of our hostel family.
