The Experience

We are inviting open-hearted volunteers from around the world to join us in building a community learning space (Sanggar Belajar) in rural Central Java, a place where children, youth, and the wider community can learn, create, and grow together. This is not just a construction project. It is a collective, hands-on process of shaping a space with meaning, care, and creativity.

The project, the house of changes - and that is absolutely true. I'm so grateful that you always had an open door , that I could share my thoughts with you, and that you were interestet to all my suggestions. I truly appreciated how welcoming and open-minded you are! The weekend in the mountains will remain a very special memory for me forever. Thank you for everything - Hati Hati, always.

I had a great time at the project. You stay with local family, the host is super friendly and make you feel really welcomed. They also have 5 kids that you can spend your time with and help. It is a place of community, where you can learn more about their customs, Indonesia and meet local people. Tasks where mainly helping with house hold chores and the kids, and then few times a week teaching local kids English in a fun way. Lot of free time. Would recommend coming here if you want to immerse more into slow local life and meet interesting people. Would love to come back one day🫶🏻

I already know I won't have enough space to write exactly how I feel about the project. There is no place where I felt as accepted as here, this family is a treasure and I truly hope the best for their future 💗 Being part of this community helped me learn a lot about myself and I will forever be grateful for the love I received here. I already know I will come back one day for sure. Never hesitate to apply here, you won't regret it 💕 give lots of love to Ami, Glegar, Djawa, Gni, Kinaya and Lire for me. Thank you for this wonderful experience, showing me the real Indonesia 💗

My time at the project was really special. Ami and her family were very welcoming and I felt immediately at home. Unfortunately, I only stayed a week. Just when I understood the rhythm of the living there, I had to leave. Our days were very relaxed. The morning we could fill in with anything we wanted to do and help out a little bit with the house chores. In the afternoon we were teaching English twice a week. There are many friends visiting the project during the day. They will love to get to know you and take you to places. It was such a beautiful experience. Thank you Ami and everyone else! 🫶

I didn’t got to experience the volunteering, I was supposed to meet the host at a bus station but he didn’t show up.
Cannot say if is good or not but doble check the arrival before time to avoid inconvenience.

OMAH replied

As previously discussed,we had recommended an earlier arrival. However, you arrived on the same day the event began. Even while we were running the event and despite there was no fixed meeting time,we had arranged a team member to pick you up.Unfortunately, extreme weather caused serious signal issues beyond our control.Once the signal returned,we contacted you, went to the bus station and called several times without response. We sincerely apologize & will ensure this doesn't happen again. Thanks.
