The Experience

Are you passionate about the land and sustainable agriculture? At EDYFU we manage institutional urban gardens and more than 40 family plots in Tarija’s Morros Blancos neighborhood, Bolivia. You will work with permaculture and vermiculture techniques, help maintain the crops that feed our dining hall, and teach neighborhood families to produce their own food. Your contribution has a direct impact on the nutrition of children in Tarija.

This was a truely heartwarming experience! All the children and staff in La libélula de the organization centre were so friendly and it felt like a family. The volunteer work was challenging in Spanish but was good practicd. Each morning and afternoon I would help the children with their homework, mainly maths and I visited the nursey when there weren't many students. I also enjoyed playing sports in the afternoon class break. Having another volunteer there was good for the social aspect and Salva was attentive when I was the only volunteer. Doña Feliz was always a friendly face! I will miss the kids!

My experience with the organization (Libélula) has been wonderful. The opportunity to share with the children and feel that you are helping them is very comforting. There is a lot to do, and feeling that you are putting in your part is something that makes you grow as a person.

I shared unique moments in the organization, the children and the teachers are definitely the soul of the NGO. I keep all the positive things, the learnings and the immersion in social contexts. I also had fun and learned a lot about the culture in Bolivia. I invite others to join this project; surely if they have a spirit of service this is a beautiful place to put your dedication and your love. As an area for improvement: communication with volunteers and teamwork would be better valued.
