The Experience

My name is Talab Khan. I am from a small desert village in Jaisalmer and running a hostel (Safari Jaisalmer) and an artistic cafe right next to the Jaisalmer Fort. We have our own Camel Safari and Desert Safari Camping Tours so we need help for our hostel and tours. With 10 minutes walking you can reach the market and with 15 minutes you can reach the Gadisar Lake, which is an amazing place with such a great view to enjoy the sunset.

I came a bit late due to flight delays and Talab was super kind and understanding, workload wasn’t demanding and they had a wonderfully kind team, especially the cook who made delicious meals everyday on request. I would 100% recommend

Had such a nice time volunteering at the hostel! Talab was genuinely fun to be around, respectful, and made me feel at home right from the start. I mostly helped out with social media, so the work was pretty relaxed and flexible, which meant I still had lots of time to enjoy the place and just take things slow. I happened to be there during the off-season, so it was much quieter than usual, but I actually really liked that. It made the whole experience feel calm, easy-going, and a lot more personal. Really grateful for the experience and for how welcome I felt. Thank you Talab!

We had a great time volunteering at the hostel! Talab was such a funny and respectful host — he made sure we felt comfortable and welcomed from the start. Our tasks were simple and very flexible since we were mainly helping with social media, which gave us plenty of time to enjoy the place. We went during the off-season, so there weren't many guests and not much happening, but that actually made it a very relaxed experience for us.Thanks for having us, Talab!

I'm so happy that I stayed at the hostel. It is a well-known hostel in Jaisalmer. The location is great, right next to the fort. 10 minutes from the train station as well. Talab was a great host and has a very inspiring story. The reception work was easy and I was happy to help with some troubleshooting too. Talab took me on some tours in his car and bike around the city which was really fun. He also made sure that I met other international travelers. My only critique is that I was very excited to take care of camels (based on the title of the exchange) and that isn't a job actually offered.
