The Experience
Somos uma comunidade permacultural com mais de 30 anos, localizada na Chapada Diamantina, a 7 km do Vale do Capão. Desenvolvemos atividades como agrofloresta, bioconstrução, reflorestamento, proteção ambiental, horta, herbário, sabonetes artesanais, escolinha com pedagogia Waldorf, dentre outras. Nossa dieta é ovo lacto vegetariana e as refeições são sempre feitas em forno a lenha. Recebemos visitantes, voluntários e também realizamos cursos.

The community is a beautiful place. I would recommend anyone to come see what they have created over a period of 30+ years. Meals are usually tasty and good. The work is interesting and the location in Chapada Diamantina is perfect. There are usually many interesting people around. That you can learn from and get inspired by.

It was a lot of fun and a very meaningful experience. It's the most beautiful nature I have ever seen in my life, and the people there are very kind and friendly. It's a great place to practice and learn Portuguese, connect with nature, and get to know the local culture. You can learn about the lifestyle of people who live in nature rather than the big city. The atmosphere is amazing, and I highly recommend volunteering there. You'll miss out on many incredible things if you don't do it.

Volunteering at the community was an amazing experience:) The community is living in harmony with each other and the beautiful calm nature around, where I was able to reconnect with myself. You have a lot of magical places to hike and relax around and the vibrant village capaõ is very close. The moment I arrived everyone made sure I feel comfortable and I could really feel the strong community feeling they created, like a family. There was something new to learn everyday about natural soap making, agroforesty, gardening, cooking healthy vegetarian food and how to organize a harmonious community.

I would recommend Communidade the community to any traveller, even if you're only passing through for a few days. Originally, that was my plan. I was supposed to stay for a weekend, which turned into a week, then two, then a month, and I even came back after a month and a half away. They have existed for 33 years, and as soon as you step foot onto the land, you understand why. Communidade the community is full of life, love, and laughter, and I felt so welcomed (even though my Portuguese wasn't very good) amongst a group of people who have made a commitment to living there, living in harmony with nature.

The community da the community is an off-grid village where I could learn by practice living with the nature. There is a house just for the volunteers which feels home, and several common areas to connect to the internet, cook or bath. The community is well structured: daily meals, tasks assignment, working hours ; and at the same time flexible. You will need to adapt to certain things (like using your phone less, being careful of snakes, sometimes accomplishing physically hard tasks, ...), in exchange you will receive a lot of gratitude. By joining the community you will live an unforgettable experience !
