The Experience

We are an animal sanctuary/rescue center in the middle of the desert. We rescue any kind of animal and we give them a chance to be happy and loved. We are looking for people who would like to help us with the maintenance of the sanctuary. The main job contains the daily feeding, cleaning and caring for the 200+ rescues at the place, taking care of our shared living space with house and surroundings, and supporting us in some construction works.

I lived an amazing experience in the shelter. I really enjoyed taking care of all these animals. At first it's a lot to learn but once you get it, it's all very nice. I just have to say that's not a place for everybody, you will live with animals everywhere and, because of that, it's not the cleanest place. It's noisy, you can be "overstimulated" but it worth it. Also live with other volunteers from all around the world and share 24/7 life can be really fun, I really spend an wonderful time. (Special kiss to Juanito)

I stayed here for two months and I absolutely loved it! You feed, water, and clean up for the animals everyday (except days off) it's simple work but it can be a lot to take in at first and some tasks are more physical. There are quite a few animals living inside the house with you which definitely can be overwhelming at times but I grew to love it! I met so many great people and we had a wonderful time together. To get into town is about a 45 minute walk and you have access to bus stops there as well as the beach! The work done here is truly amazing and gives so many animals a second chance.

The weeks went by so fast! I'm grateful to be given the opportunity and trust to do some extra work and work with new animal arrivals. The communication style of the person managing the sanctuary at the time of my visit felt stressful and confrontational. This was discussed with the owner and is actively being worked on, but did leave a bit of a negative feeling with me. I really enjoyed the welcoming sense of community that grew among the volunteers. And I loved hanging out with the animals, although it can be a bit hectic sometimes.

The home is in a very interesting place. I liked the environment, and the challenge. They was welcoming and upfront with me. They told me what to expect, and what we discussed, they hold them to it. The only downside for me: When they told me, it is not an easy place to be. I should had listen more. :) For me it was a challenging place, because there are too much animal in too little space. Thx for the experience.

Even tho the first few days at the shelter were a bit overwhelming for me as there was so many new things to learn, so many animals to take care of and I wasn't used to a off grid lifestyle either, the more time I spent there the more I adapted to these things and grew to love it. The shelter, the people i met there and the animals will forever have a place in my heart.
