The Experience

Embark on an exciting adventure with us at our stunning Neo-Gothic Victorian house, built in the 1890s. Set just a stone’s throw from the world-renowned Town of Books, Hay-on-Wye, and moments from Offa’s Dyke, the historic path dividing Wales and England, this is a chance to immerse yourself in history and nature. Tasks include plenty of gardening, some household chores, and indoor Vinted uploads on cold or rainy days. Come join us.

Sarah, Amy and Daniel were all lovely and welcoming so I felt at home right away! The property is wonderful and not too far from Hay-on-Wye for it to be inconvenient, and you're granted plenty of freedom to head to town most days. The work is fun and very manageable if you can stay on top of all the tasks you're given, so I'd recommend Brynmelyn to anyone and everyone!

Brynmelyn was such a cool place to volunteer, I loved working with Sarah, Amy and all of the other volunteers. Sarah was very accommodating, there was a moment when I was supposed to be leaving but unexpectedly had to return and stay for an extra week, and Sarah immediately welcomed me back. Also thank you to Amy who was so enthusiastic with helping me assemble my banjo :)

I would recommend volunteering at Brynmelyn to those who don't mind putting in a little bit of hard work and like to work / live in a tight knit group. I would absolutely volunteer here again if given the chance!

Volunteering for Sarah was an amazing experience, the old house has many projects underway like weeding, decorating, and basic construction, it's hard work but very fulfilling and welcoming. Sarah is very good at communicating when you need to speak to her and she makes sure everything is ok while still being fair to herself and the volunteers. When unexpected weather impacted our water supply she was quick to make a plan and make it as easy as possible to deal with the changes and keep us updated on progress. I can't wait till I can hopefully come back and volunteer again!

This was an amazing experience! It takes a team to get things done and Sarah and Amy run things very smoothly. At this position you will learn the value of hard work but also have plenty of time to have fun with other volunteers and in town. It is the perfect experience if you want something more secluded, I miss it already!
