The Experience

The Tribe of the Sun celebrates the richness of local ingredients through seasonal, endemic and vibrant cooking. This culinary concept focuses on the use of foods that are grown and harvested in harmony with the seasons, ensuring freshness and sustainability. It contributes to everyday food education in daily practices, in the Cozinha do Sol seminars, or through active participation in the agroecological fair of Alter do Chão.

My experience at the project was great, Yasmin was very thoughtful, going through the tasks with detail and was genuinely interested in what I wanted to improve on. I got to learn about tocal plants and foods, new recipies for healthy meals, and also got to know the local culture and other projects. I recommend it 100%!! I felt like home and we had a great vibe with all the other volunteers.

I had a great experience at the project. Denise has deep knowledge of local plant based cooking, and I learned a lot from her approach to food and daily life. During my stay, I learned about centropic agriculture, helped with garden chores, and supported with social media. I appreciated the variety of tasks, which kept each day engaging and balanced. The space is beautiful, located in a forested area of Alter Do Chão, which creates a real opportunity to slow down, disconnect from distractions, and truly immerse yourself in nature. It's a special place created with a lot of love and care.

Amazing expérience at the project Denise knows her domain with good wideness. She is also an Amazing cook which is awesome with local good quality product that she collect from her garden. The work in thé garden and the chiken coop help me to improve knowedge on how to suppression hunger with unlimited nature work, reclycling its life. I had my own space and agenda was flexible. Enjoyed m'y stay and her company, the host can talk about anything. Carefull to unethical/unappropriated jokes though haha. She showed m'y the neibourghood and made sure i was confortable. In the project, I had the opportunity to experience a more alternative lifestyle, where sustainability and health were central themes.

Day-to-day life mostly consisted of performing house chores and helping in the kitchen. It is possible to learn many curious and healthy recipes during the activities. The host is also always open to sharing what she knows.

I think they could improve the infrastructure, mainly the bathroom and the bedroom; the main points are the lack of privacy in the bathroom and leaks in the ceiling of the bedroom. The distance to the city is also a point to consider.

I spent two weeks at the project, where I was welcomed by Yasmin. It was a simple living experience, with a focus on the house routine, food preparation, production of kombuchas, participation in the agroecological market, and some activities on the land. In addition to volunteering, it's important to understand that you also share the day-to-day life of a family, which makes the experience quite human and different from more structured projects. I carry with me lessons on mindful eating, simplicity, and also about my own limits. I am grateful for the exchange and wish the project great success.
