The Experience

The goal is to learn or practice a language by training the eyes and hands. While we cook, clean, repair and/or create, let the words mix with the gestures, and let the gesture become language. One of my life projects is to learn Libras to feel, in the body and through visual listening, other ways of perceiving the world. I speak a little Spanish and I’m also interested in French and English, to expand my communication resources.

Since the very beginning, being at Luisa’s place felt like home! A colorful, joyful and amazing soul, being the heart and hand of her merceneira! The tasks are relaxed and the time spent together had been amazing! It has been a wonderful experience to know more about Brazilian colture and to meet people from all over the world!

It was a pleasant experience to get to know the city, to turn wood into something beautiful, a job that seems easy but requires time and patience, I really enjoyed learning about carpentry. My experience at Casa-Ateliê Marceneira was an opportunity to experience a different kind of accommodation. Lizz shares the house with guests, so there are always new people. The atelier has its own identity, with plants, wood and a routine that blends work and daily life. It was a learning and exchange experience.

I loved the experience! It's really like being at home, living with other really nice people. Luiza, the host and owner of the house, is really kind and is always attentive to make you feel at ease.

I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to spend some time in a quiet place without much hustle. It's also good to know that it's not in downtown Campinas, but in Barão Geraldo, which is a district of Campinas.

I carry with me very beautiful memories from this experience. ❤️

Luiza is very friendly, I was well received at the house. The tasks do not have predefined schedules, the volunteer is free to do them at the time they prefer. I could observe and participate in the renovation of a bookshelf. I learned some carpentry techniques that I found very interesting. I met two other volunteers during this period and we walked together in our free time.
