ITH Pacific Tradewinds Hostel

**Everything below is very true prior to Covid, things are a little different at our hostel these days. Feel free to reach out for more information on how things are different these days!**

We are a quirky, spontaneous, friendly, super social group of travelers that have fallen in love with San Francisco and have decided to stay awhile. And we happen to call the smallest and friendliest hostel in town, home. We love meeting travelers from all over the world and swapping stories, meals, laughs and hugs.

From time to time we happen to meet travelers that would be a great fit in our community. A handful of us live communally and share tasks to keep our hostel home clean, organized and fun. If you believe that strangers are friends you haven’t met yet and kindness is the most important thing — then we would love to chat with you.

We routinely gift free stays to our guests, especially when we think they are doing good things for the planet or when they have provided a positive influence in our hostel community. This is not a work exchange nor does it meet the U.S. legal definition of ”quid pro quo”, instead this is an invitation to introduce yourself to us and see if there's a possibility you might want to stay a while in San Francisco's friendliest communal living arrangement for travelers. When we talk, we can explain more how this non-working relationship works

Housemates typically stay 1-3 months before heading off to their next destination. Others may stay longer or shorter it just depends on how life at the hostel is flowing.

Let’s chat!

Until then, happy trails…

Cheers,
Bailey

**“Be excellent to each other!”**

We value community and kindness here at Pacific Tradewinds., and strongly believe that strangers are friends you haven't met yet. You can always expect to be treated with respect and acceptance here while fostering lifelong friendships throughout your stay.

Being able to discover San Francisco in exchange for time spent for 4 hours of general housekeeping (bed-making, vacuuming cleaning restrooms, and loading and folding laundry.) It was an excellent exchange for what I was able to make out of it. My only thing was that aside from the generous help of Nikole and Asad, things did feel solitary, I had no co-workers during the duration of my work. Work understandably varied day by day but while there were days I was done considerably early, so were there days where the workload was intense. I did feel like I was missing more of a tight-knit feel.

All the best with your new journey, you stayed beyond your one month's stay without working a single day last 4 days ( i.e: without being welcome to extend) also you for one did the least number of hours for any volunteer we had in a month and did things on your own pace. Not to mention the plethora of guest complaints received for missing food.

My month at ITH was as well as can be. You get breakfast; eggs, bread, bananas, pancakes, pb& j. Dinner, you are to cook once a week which consists of pasta, potatoes, rice, veggies, (chicken for the carnivores:) no drinks for dinner only water. Drinks are two dollars and fifty cents. Two nights dinner is included with the entire hostel, that is Taco Tuesday(MY FAV) & Rooftop bbq on Fridays. The work is REALLY straightforward, there are times you might have more than one day off a week! Met some cool people here and had a good time. Oh & get ready to climb some stairs babe:)

ITH Pacific Tradewinds has an amazing staff, fellow volunteers, and travelers. While this was just my first work exchange, it was life changing for the best. I had the pleasure of meeting so many people, and having such an amazing time. I learned more about myself, my fellow humans, and San Francisco. Hopefully someday I will be able to visit again!

This has truly been one of the best experiences I have had volunteering. This volunteering has been better than I expected, I am very grateful to Steve for giving me the opportunity to be part of the ITH Pacific Tradewinds team and also to Asd and Nikole who have been incredible to me. Nikole, you are incredible, I really thank you for everything, I have no words to express how grateful I am for everything. The hostel has activities every night so you will never be bored and you will meet many people from all over the world, 100% recommended.

Thank you Nikole & Asd, I will miss you!!

I loved my time at ITH Pacific Tradewinds! Nikole and Asd made me feel right at home and were super welcoming the entire time; we've became great friends! They were very flexible with my online job, and always scheduled me accordingly allowing me to both work and volunteer. I can't recommend ITH enough. See you guys somewhere soon :)
