ITH Pacific Tradewinds Hostel
Everything below is very true prior to Covid, things are a little different at our hostel these days. Feel free to reach out for more information on how things are different these days!
We are a quirky, spontaneous, friendly, super social group of travelers that have fallen in love with San Francisco and have decided to stay awhile. And we happen to call the smallest and friendliest hostel in town, home. We love meeting travelers from all over the world and swapping stories, meals, laughs and hugs.
From time to time we happen to meet travelers that would be a great fit in our community. A handful of us live communally and share tasks to keep our hostel home clean, organized and fun. If you believe that strangers are friends you haven’t met yet and kindness is the most important thing — then we would love to chat with you.
We routinely gift free stays to our guests, especially when we think they are doing good things for the planet or when they have provided a positive influence in our hostel community. This is not a work exchange nor does it meet the U.S. legal definition of ”quid pro quo”, instead this is an invitation to introduce yourself to us and see if there's a possibility you might want to stay a while in San Francisco's friendliest communal living arrangement for travelers. When we talk, we can explain more how this non-working relationship works
Housemates typically stay 1-3 months before heading off to their next destination. Others may stay longer or shorter it just depends on how life at the hostel is flowing.

My experience at this hostel was amazing! I got to see so many travelers from around the world while I was staying. Our host, Asad, was always willing to help us and organize fun activities,which makes it easier for me to socialize with others. Housekeeping was not so tough and difficult so I was able to get used to it easily. I really enjoyed staying there, and I would love to come back to this hostel again someday :)

This was my first volunteer experience and this hostel welcomed me in a fun and safe environment. Asad is very helpful and flexible, this allowed me to spend a peaceful time, fully enjoying the city and the people I met in the hostel, which I will always carry in my heart! The shifts are very simple and I often finished earlier than the scheduled time. The bathrooms and beds are very comfortable. I recommend this experience to anyone and even if you're afraid to leave, do it!!! You won't regret it!

This was my first volunteering experience, and I truly enjoyed many parts of it. The hostel has an excellent location, and I met wonderful guests and fellow volunteers who made my stay memorable. I am grateful for those experiences and the friendships I made.
Unfortunately, I decided to leave earlier than planned because communication with the host became very difficult. I was always willing to learn and improve, but the feedback I received felt personal rather than constructive . I also believe some housekeeping practices, including the cleaning products used, should be reviewed for safety

This was my first experience volunteering, and it was amazing The activities were very simple, helping a few hours with cleaning the hostel, which by the way is always clean and tidy. Asad always respected the schedules, he recommended places and made my experience very welcoming, even helped me change schedules in case I wanted to go to any activity in the city. The location is perfect because you can walk to many places and discover lots of places near the city. I would definitely repeat this experience. Thanks for everything! ✨

I recommend it for anyone who doesn't come with expectations of extreme comfort or something similar, because the information is really what he describes, and that's not a bad thing; I already knew and wanted that. Asad was very communicative with me and it was nice as well, and sometimes he stayed to himself, just like I did. My first month of adaptation was difficult due to my own issues, so at times I was more reclusive and I ended up getting a cold as well (don't underestimate the cold in the city...); I arrived with English at A2 level and I took a chance, so do your own assessment—for me it was very worth it. It's possible to get to know the city in a short time.
